Active and Former Promotions See Significant Growth in Q2 2026 Trading Activity

Examining Active and Former Promotions in the U.S. Equity markets this past quarter, we see an overall increase compared to Q1 2026.

Totals: Q2 vs. Q1 2026

  • Nasdaq: $472.6 B vs. $299.6 B
  • NYSE: $85.0 B vs. $70.7 B
  • NYSE American: $16.0 B vs. $11.0 B
  • OTC Markets: $1.4 B vs. $0.29B

By Dollar Volume and Number of Securities, Nasdaq traded securities continue to be the majority of active and former promotions in Q2 as they were in Q1.

Formal notices of listed equity securities failing to meet exchange standards increased for Nasdaq and decreased for NYSE American.

In response to its high number of promotions and deficiencies, especially in comparison to the overall equities market, Nasdaq issued a Rule Proposal which provided them with the ability immediately delist securities in late July.

As we noted in April, volume alone doesn’t tell the full compliance story — history and issuer profile information remain essential context. That’s even more true this quarter given the growth in dollar volume across promoted securities. For investors, compliance teams, and market surveillance functions alike, that’s a reminder that headline dollar figures need to be paired with a closer look at which specific securities are driving them — across every trading venue, not just one.
